Hey it’s me, OOHYO. Sometimes I look around only to realize that darkness dominates so much of our world. Often, we love ourselves too much and fail to empathize with other people’s pain. Other times, we force popular standards and norms on others just to compete against them and feel a little better about ourselves. In the process, we end up treating others as if they were merely products we must have, or a means to get something else, instead of respecting them as individuals with personality, intellect, and emotions, bound by circumstances. While we hustle and fret about having enough things to feel proud about, some people live on without having even the most basic necessities for survival, or the most fundamental rights to liberty, self-determination, freedom of thought, expression, and religion. ‘BRAVE’ (from last album ‘Far From the Madding City’) is back as a single. It is an anthem for anyone who would gladly take on the challenge of overcoming their own self-centeredness, recognizing their purpose for life, and taking charge of doing good works they’ve been called to do, everyday one day at a time. 우효입니다. 가끔 우리 주변을 둘러보면 어두운 현실만 보일 때가 있습니다. 자신을 사랑하는 마음이 지나쳐 남을 배려하지 못하고 남의 아픔에 공감하지 못하는 사람들이 보일 때가 있습니다. 획일화된 기준을 서로에게 강요하며 경쟁하고, 타인을 소유하고 싶은 상품 혹은 이용하고 싶은 도구 이상으로 존중하고 배려하지 않는 사람들이 보일 때가 있습니다. 그러나 시야를 조금 더 돌려 우리의 울타리 밖을 둘러보면 인간이 사는데 꼭 필요한 가장 기본의 것들조차 없이 살아가는 사람들이 보일 때가 있습니다. 그럴 때는 우리가 소유하지 못할까 봐 불안해하는 것들, 수단과 방법을 가리지 않고 쟁취하고자 하는 것들이 얼마나 사치스러운지 그리고 자기파괴적인지를 돌아보게 됩니다. 지난 앨범 수록곡이었던 BRAVE가 싱글 트랙으로 돌아왔습니다. 오늘도 어두운 현실의 틀에 자신을 맞추기보다는 울타리 밖을 바라보며 나부터 달라지기 위해 용기를 내는 모든 사람을 응원합니다.
