A collection of music to celebrate the United States of America on the 4th of July, the Independence Day.
For this purpose we chose the USA National Anthem and Dvorak New World Symphony.
If the first chioice is obvious, the second one is due to the history of Dvorak's masterpiece: in the New World Symphony composition Dvořák was influenced not only by the music he had heard, but by what he had seen, in America. He wrote that he would not have composed his American pieces as he had, if he had not seen America. It has been said that Dvořák was inspired by the American "wide open spaces" such as prairies he may have seen on his trip to Iowa in the summer of 1893.

Independence day is a very important day for USA citizens, because it reminds the legal separation and the complete independence of the Thirteen Colonies from Great Britain, that occurred in 1776.
After voting for independence, Congress turned its attention to the Declaration of Independence, a statement explaining this decision, which had been prepared by a Committee of Five, with Thomas Jefferson as its principal author. Congress debated and revised the wording of the Declaration, finally approving it on July 4.
A day earlier, John Adams had written to his wife:
"The second day of July, 1776, will be the most memorable epoch in the history of America.
I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival. It ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forever more."
He was definitely right.
