Antigono - an opera thought to be lost forever during an earthquake back in 1755, has been put together in the Portuguese capital, Lisbon.
BCC (Belém's Cultural Centre)'s megaproduction has been the modern wordlwide debut.

"Antígono" was still playing when the biggest earthquake felt until today in Portugal destroyed Lisbon. King José I once commissioned 18th Century composer Antonio Mazzoni to create it, in which all major parts were expected to be performed by famous castrato singers of the time, such as Farinelli, Guadagni and Caffarelli.

Massimo Mazzeo reveals that he has been working on this project for two and a half years and the challenge was set by Nicholas Mcnair. The reviewer proposed the BCC this trip to the past.
Rebourn from the ashes, an opera that hasn't been played for over 255 years has been found at the Rio de Janeiro National Library and will now be welcomed by the XXI century's baroque: the digital.

Its music will now be released on CD by DYNAMIC, so that it won't be missed again.
