This new video recording released on DVD by Dynamic is featuring the opera ATTILA by Giuseppe Verdi. It has been produced by the Sofia National Opera and shooted in Bulgaria in the open air at the medieval stronghold of Tsaverets in 2011. It has been conducted by Alessandro Sangiorgi and directed by Plamen Kartaloff. Orlin Anastasov is an amazing "Attila" and the cast is featuring then Ventselav Anastasov as "Ezio", Radostina Nikolaeva as "Odabella", Daniel Damvanov as "Foresto", Plamen Papazikov as "Uldino" and Dimitar Stanchev as "Leone".
In Verdi's catalogue "Attila", which was first performed at Venice's la Fenice in 1846, is chronologically listed as his ninth work. As subject for his work Verdi chose the tragedy Attils, der König der Hunner by the German playwright Zacharias Werner where he found that kind of picturesque Romanticism, somewhat clichéd in its flashy and gaudy medieval themes, which snaked in the German theatrical underwood and seemed perfect for an opera libretto. From a musical point of view "Attila" has been defined a sculptural work where the epic and dramatic impact is overhelming. Orlin Anastasov vocal performance is giving credit to this character.
