Ella Fitzgerad, born at Newport News, Virginia, on April 25, 1917, was
19 at the time of the Teddy Wilson session above, the older here. Two years later “A-Tisket, A-Tasket” was her first hit. This collection chronicles her career from then, until the end of World War II, and includes some of her best records of the period.
Few years later Norman Granz, the man who invented JATP (Jazz at the Philharmonic), would become her manager helping to build her into the top star that we know.
Ending our compilation with a kind of Jam Session (a Granz specialty) for V-Disc, is thus no less than appropriate.
