This lyric video accompanies the first version of ‘Madman Across The Water’ recorded on May 18, 1970, during the sessions for Tumbleweed Connection. The electric guitar was played by Mick Ronson, a member of David Bowie’s band. Michael Chapman is playing acoustic guitar with Herbie Flowers, who also played with Bowie, playing bass. The drummer on the track Barry Morgan also features on Elton’s Your Song, Levon, Border Song, Burn Down The Mission, and others. Ultimately, this version of the song didn’t make the album and a new recording was done in 1971 with different musicians but this original version appeared first on Rare Masters (1992) as well as the 50th anniversary edition of ‘Madman Across The Water’ (2022).
