Shortly before the fabulously chaotic rock band Gashcat took the tiny stage at the Javelina coffee house in Austin, Texas, frontman Kyle Craft confided that his voice was shot. It was the final day of the 2013 South by Southwest music festival, and Craft wasn't sure he'd make it through the band's last performance. Minutes later, he was at the mic, screaming his way through a wondrous, frenetic set of highlights from the band's short career. His voice sounded fully charged and beautifully frayed, particularly in "The Morning Sun," the lead cut from the band's 2011 debut Reunion, captured in this Front Row video.
Gashcat formed in Austin in 2010 and has since relocated to Shreveport, La. Last fall, the group followed Reunion with the five-song EP Devil Kid Demos. Gashcat is currently working on a new full-length album, with plans to release it in early fall. --ROBIN HILTON
