Born in 1843 in Bergen, Norway, Grieg is one of the most important late romantic composers. He is particularly notable for his incorporation of Norwegian folk tales and music in his own compositions, through which he explored and helped establish a Norwegian national identity. Notable works include the Piano Concerto in A minor, his Peer Gynt incidental music for Ibsen’s homonymous play, and his Holberg Suite.
