Joyce DiDonato sings "Vesuvio, il mio unico amico" – Jake Heggie: Great Scott (The Dallas Opera)

The original story, by the celebrated playwright Terence McNally, follows Joyce in the role of international opera star Arden Scott, who returns to her hometown to save the struggling opera company that launched her career. Joining her are Ailyn Pérez, Frederica Von Stade, Nathan Gunn, and Anthony Ross Costanzo with the Dallas Opera Orchestra & Chorus and Patrick Summers. The production was directed by Jack O’Brien with sets and costumes by Bob Crowley, lighting by Brian MacDevitt, and projections by Elaine J. McCarthy.

Fred Plotkin of WQXR, the USA’s leading classical music radio station, welcomed Great Scott as a "deeply moving and musically brilliant work" that "should enter the standard repertory just as Heggie’s two previous masterpieces – Dead Man Walking and Moby-Dick – already have."
