From November 1-3 2012, iConcerts brought you a live webcast of the second edition of the Pitchfork Music Festival in Paris with la crème de la crème of alternative music. Watch Liars' live performance filmed at the Grande Halle de la Villette! Formed in the Los Angeles area, where co-founders Andrew and Hemphill met at the famed California Institute of the Arts, Liars soon relocated to Brooklyn, gaining notice after being lumped into the early aughts’ post-punk revival with their first album They Threw Us in a Trench and Stuck a Monument On Top in 2001. Liars then willfully confounded that pigeonholing with a classically difficult sophomore effort, They Were Wrong, So We Drowned. The record is a confrontational, noisy concept album about German witch trials, and was co-produced by the band and David Sitek (TV on the Radio, Yeah Yeah Yeahs). Liars then moved to Berlin to record another conceptual album, 2006’s Drum’s Not Dead. The band’s eponymous 2007 follow-up, mixed by Gareth Jones, replaced the now-trademark heady themes with a gripping emphasis on stripped-down, primal rock and roll. In 2010 the band released the critically acclaimed Sisterworld, and this year they returned with WIXIW, a more intimate and emotional album.
