Marianne Crebassa sings French & Spanish opera arias and songs in Séguedilles

The operatic characters that Marianne encompasses on the album include Massenet’s Dulcinée (Don Quichotte), Ravel’s Concepción (L’Heure espagnole), and Offenbach’s Périchole (who is Peruvian rather than Spanish), but Bizet’s Carmen is inevitably the dominant presence: after all, the album’s title derives from her most playfully seductive aria, which brings the key moment when Don José admits he is at her mercy. (The tenor here, duly bewitched, is Stanislas de Barbeyrac.) Carmen’s ‘Séguedille’ is complemented on the album by the similarly famous ‘Habanera’ and ‘Chanson Bohème’, for which Crebassa is joined by two young French singers, Céline Laborie as Frasquita and Victoire Bunel as Mercédès. Other guests on the album include soprano Adriana Gonzales, pianist Alphonse Cemin, and fellow Warner Classics & Erato artist guitarist Thibaut Garcia.
