Our double CD, the seventeenth and last issue of the series, features, like volume sixteen, eleven concertos, all dating from the second period of Tartini's activity, the most fertile and rich of masterful works. Several of these concertos (namely D 114, 121, 36, 11, 32, 98, 37, 80 and 6) have come down to us through manuscript copies kept in the Blancheton Fund of the Paris Bibliothèque du Conservatoire, now Bibliothèque Nationale, which may not allow us to establish precise dates of composition but at least narrows them down to a circumscribed period, for this Fund was created in 1741 and holds mostly works written around the middle of the 1730s. It stands to reason, therefore, that Tartini likely composed the present concertos around the age of forty, at the apex of his creative activity, and indeed all these works reveal consistent stylistic features.
