The origins of Korngold's Cello Concerto lie in a 6-minute piece played by one of the characters in the 1946 film noir Deception, for which Korngold wrote the music. Edgar Moreau performs this work on his next solo album, with the Luzerner Sinfonieorchester and Michael Sanderling: https://w.lnk.to/emtLY
Erich Wolfgang Korngold is a towering figure in the history of film music. He wrote his Cello Concerto in 1946, roughly eight years after the composer, on a working visit to Hollywood, suddenly became an exile from Austria upon its World War II annexation. He composed many Hollywood scores, including the music for the 1946 movie Deception, in which one of the characters plays the piece that would later inspire his concerto. The film noir drama stars Bette Davis as a pianist, Paul Heinreid as a cellist, and Claude Rains as a composer.
