28th November 1974 marked an incredible moment in musical history as John Lennon walked onstage at Madison Square Garden to join Elton to perform their single, ‘Whatever Gets You Thru The Night’. The concert would be Lennon’s last major concert appearance, and the result of a bet Elton made Lennon that the song would top the Billboard Hot 100 chart, Lennon reluctantly agreeing that if it did, he would make a surprise appearance. Photos from that evening show the electric atmosphere on stage (and even feature Elton’s lyricist Bernie Taupin on stage with the duo, a rare occurrence!) Also featured here are photos of Elton and John in rehearsals at the Record Plant recording studio in NYC two days before the concert; traveling on Elton’s private plane, the Starship 1; and backstage at Madison Square Garden.
