Its a new production of the Belgian Theatre directed by Stefano Mazzonis di Pralafera with scenes by Edoardo Sanchi and costumes of Kaat Tilley, the Belgian fashion designer of unique creations.
Starring Cinzia Forte and Saimir Pirgu.
Saimir Pirgu, only a few year ago nobody knew this exotic sounding name. Now all that has changed. Saimir Pirgu has already sung in Rome, Madrid, Bilbao and Valencia, Zurich, Berlin, Cologne, Hamburg and Munich, as well as the Vienna State Opera and the Salzburg Festival and other engagements in New York and London are coming up.
In 2010 he will play Alfredo in La Traviata at the Coven Garden.
Rarely it comes across cases of how much all other singers fit really in their roles as in this work.
The stage is set very modern and although it makes you think of a timeless setting, the costumes give hint about the link to Paris at the time when the libretto has been written.
One of the most remarkable atouts of this performance has been the choice to create characters with a much more human profile and less distant to those we normally are used to watch in other performances.
The play attracted the interest of the Dutch Ministry of Culture which have sponsored it.
- La Traviata has been broadcasted Live to more than 100 digital cinemas and became the best hit with the public within the different broadcasted Operas.
