Nikhil Majumder (নিখিল মজুমদার) and his work on Bengali Folk Music

Nikhil Kr. Majumder (নিখিল কৃষ্ণ মজুমদার) has been a renowned music personality since the late 80's. His career has been significantly devoted to the folk music arena with versatile capabilities. He is, in one hand a successful voice and instrumental artist. On the other hand, his efforts go to keep our indigenous folk musical instruments alive through manufacturing and to teach the techniques of manufacturing of the instruments that have been getting lost from our music industry over the course of time. Last but not the least, he has been teaching folk music over the past 3 decades (completely voluntary) with a vision of getting the glory of folk music back and to establish folk music as a part of mainstream music parallel to modern, Tagore, Nazrul, and so on. Recently he is heading a movement of folk musical resurrection through an organization namely Banglar Baul Shiksha Niketan (বাংলার বাউল শিক্ষা নিকেতন).

Eminent TV personality Mr. Hanif Shangket (হানিফ সংকেত) discovered this hidden talent and felt that Mr. Majumder should have been brought before the wider audience long ago. Eventually, Mr. Sangket recorded a brief feature on his work and performance accompanied by a group of students with various skill sets. This feature, made on the theme of Bengali culture and heritage was telecasted on 29th April 2011 on ITTADI (ইত্যাদি), a widely popular magazine show of Bangladesh Television (BTV).
