5 Facts You Didn’t Know About Chopin

1. He was a child prodigy.
He was already writing poetry at age 6. He played his first concert when he was 8 and a few years later he started performing for Polish aristocrats as well as working on his own compositions.

2. His parents were also musicians.
His music genes were inherited from his parents: his mother was a piano teacher and his father was a flute and violin player and expert.

3. He played the piano in the dark.
Chopin was very shy so he would put out the candles in his room when at the piano. When playing in public, he would ask to put out the light in the room.

4. He was romantically involved with G. Sand.
George Sand (pen name for author Amantine Lucile Aurore Dupin) and Chopin had a long romance.
During this time, he wrote some of his most famous pieces, including the Sonata in B Minor.

5. His favorite piano maker was “Pleyel”.
Some of his most famous pieces were composed on his Pleyel piano. When he was recuperating from tuberculosis in Spain, his Pleyel piano was to go with him but couldn’t
be transported.
