In late 1971, a 24-year-old Elton performed his just-released album Madman Across The Water in its near entirety in front of a BBC television studio audience in London. Broadcast on BBC2’s Sounds for Saturday on April 1972, Elton delivered a captivating solo recital of ‘Indian Sunset’. Nearly fifty years later, the song continues to astonish audiences as part of his Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour, where Elton describes the profound lyric about the demise of the Native American population as a “a two-and-a-half hour movie”.
