George Li plays Liszt: Les Jeux d'Eaux à la Villa d'Este

George Li gained international attention in 2015 when he won the silver medal in the International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow. The following year his debut recital for Warner Classics was recorded in the Mariinsky Concert Hall in St. Petersburg, a city closely associated with Tchaikovsky.

Music by Liszt also featured on his Mariinsky recital beside works by Haydn, Chopin, and Rachmaninov. “A winner of a debut disc,” was the opinion of International Piano magazine, while BBC Music Magazine wrote that: “[The recital] has all the light and shade expected from such a varied programme. Li’s style is thoughtful and expressive … exquisite tone in [Liszt’s] Consolation No. 3, melting into the keyboard with incredible technique.”
