Join us in an online listening party for the 'Summer of Soul (... Or, When the Revolution Could Not Be Televised)' soundtrack, featuring live performances from the hit documentary. Sam Sanders, host for 'It’s Been A Minute,' will be joined by musician and filmmaker Questlove in a conversation.
Selected from over 40 hours of film, much of it unseen for decades, 'Summer of Soul' documents the Harlem Cultural Festival that took place from June 29 to Aug. 24, 1969. The film is interspersed with commentary both old and new, but the soundtrack sets you right in Mount Morris Park, with brief introductions and interludes by festival director Tony Lawrence, and just a whole lotta live music: Sly and the Family Stone, The 5th Dimension, The Staple Singers, Gladys Knight & The Pips, Nina Simone, Mongo Santamria and more.
