Stella – Michael Spyres in Offenbach: Les Contes d'Hoffmann (The Legend of Kleinzach)

Hoffmann is in love with three women – Olympia, Antionia, and Giulietta – and dreams about them in a bar.

Loosely inspired by the cinematic universe of David Lynch, Stella is a short film conceived for the American tenor Michael Spyres. Internationally recognized as one of the greatest (bari)tenors of his generation, Michael Spyres played the role of the poet Hoffmann in Jacques Offenbach's famous posthumous opera, Les Contes d'Hoffmann. In his album BariTenor released by Warner Classics & Erato, Michael Spyres performs the aria "The Legend of Kleinzach" from the same opera. The film Stella aims to present this famous aria to a wider audience by using the codes of David Lynch's aestheticism, inspired by his most famous works, from Mulholland Drive to Twin Peaks to Blue Velvet. This original film is a new artistic proposal to discover the world of opera in a new way.

Librement inspiré de l’univers cinématographique de David Lynch, Stella est un court-métrage conçu pour le ténor américain Michael Spyres. Mondialement reconnu comme l’un des plus grands (bary)ténors de sa génération, Michael Spyres a incarné à travers le monde le rôle du poète Hoffmann dans le célèbre opéra posthume de Jacques Offenbach, Les Contes d’Hoffmann. Dans son album « BariTenor » paru chez Warner/Erato, Michael Spyres interprète l’air « La légende de Kleinzach » tiré du même opéra. Le film Stella a pour objectif de présenter cet air célèbre à un public large en utilisant les codes propres à l’esthétisme de David Lynch en s’inspirant de ses oeuvres les plus connues, de Mulholland Drive à Twin Peaks, en passant par Blue Velvet. Ce film original est une nouvelle proposition artistique afin de permettre de découvrir l’opéra différemment.
